Raita

Thereโ€™s a pretty interesting Indian community in Paris and Iโ€™ve taken to walking around areas in Paris like La Chapelle and rue du Faubourg Saint-Denis, poking my nose into noisy restaurants and trying to figure out what those colorful and oddly shaped fruits and vegetables at the produces stalls are. There are all sorts of stuff in those shops and Iโ€™m particularly taken with somethingโ€ฆ

Verjus

If youโ€™re one of those people whoโ€™ve been trying to get one of the coveted places at Hidden Kitchen, the supper club in Paris, libertรฉ and egalitรฉ have arrived in the form of a wine bar and restaurant called Verjus. After running their successful dinners, theyโ€™ve decided to take the plunge and create a warm space where they could welcome any and all guests, whetherโ€ฆ

Favorite Travel Items

Iโ€™ve made a couple of big trips lately, and although Iโ€™m (almost) home for a while, Iโ€™m not really a good traveler so I take a few things along to make traveling easier and more comfortable. Hereโ€™s a list of things that I donโ€™t leave home without, to make life a little more pleasant on the road, and in the airโ€ฆ Tempur-Pedic Eye Mask Myโ€ฆ

Chocolate Tart Recipe

People are often fascinated by what, and how I eat. They think that if youโ€™re a baker, you spend all your time eating pastries. Which is like thinking that bartenders spend all their time drinking. My not-so-secret strategy is that whenever I eat something, I want it to be the best of its genre. I donโ€™t want or need a ton of cream or whatever;โ€ฆ

Coulommiers

When I came back from Australia, something in my refrigerator stunk to high heaven. I was pretty sure I had done a good job before I left, making sure all bits and pieces of anything that could spoil in the frigo were tossed. Since my head was in another hemisphere, I just chalked it up to my fridge not being opened in a while. Butโ€ฆ

Where to Dine in Sydney, Australia

If I ever get back to Sydney, I may never leave. And not just because it takes the better part of a full day to get there, or to recover from the jet-lag, which Australians know about all-too-wellโ€ฆsince for them to go anywhere, itโ€™s a considerable journey as well. But what I found interesting was whenever I told any locals how great their city was,โ€ฆ

Quay Restaurant

Since itโ€™s my blog, I can do what I want. So Iโ€™m going to start with โ€“ what else? โ€“ dessert. At one of the opening dinners for the visiting chefs who came from around the world for the Crave Sydney Food Festival, four Australian chefs got together and made dinner for us. Tasting menus can be hard because for one thing, theyโ€™re a lotโ€ฆ

The Lamington at Single-Origin Roasters

My search for the perfect Lamington ended this morning. If you donโ€™t know what a Lamington is, youโ€™re not alone. Yes, even I hadnโ€™t heard of one, until a posted a picture of the Chocolate-Coconut Marshmallows from The Sweet Life in Paris on my Flickr page and they were mistaken for Lamingtons.
