Librairie Gasterea: Gastronomic Bookstore

Like most men (and it seems from my previous post, quite a few women, married or otherwise), have a crush on Sophia Loren. My passion was aroused when I walked by the Librairie Gastรฉrรฉa and saw her beaming face as she lovingly rolled out sheets of pasta on the book jacket parked enticingly in their window. So I was happy to have a chance toโ€ฆ

Food Blogging Camp 2011

Iโ€™m thrilled to announce my participation in the third annual Food Blogger Camp! From January 5-9, 2011, Iโ€™ll be reuniting with some of my best friends and food bloggers to present a fun-filled fiesta overlooking the sensational Grand Velas on the sandy turquoise beaches of Riviera Maya, near Playa del Carmen in Mexico.

Bircher Muesli

I have quite a few โ€œissuesโ€, including an aversion food thatโ€™s blue which wasnโ€™t intended by nature to be so (I donโ€™t understand whatโ€™s up with that โ€˜blue raspberryโ€™ soda), I donโ€™t like getting dressed first thing in the morning or talking to others for at least the first hour of the day, I get uneasy when being driven anywhere by a taxi or hiredโ€ฆ

Sharjah Market

I have a really dumb habit of always wearing flip-flops, or similar sandal-style shoes, then discovering that I have to do something really precarious a little while later. I remember scaling down rocky cliffs at beaches and almost killing myself, as well as assorted other idiocies attempted with rubber-clad feet. Really, itโ€™s amazing Iโ€™m still alive. Like the flowing robes, sandals are part of theโ€ฆ

French Chocolate Mousse Cake

Thereโ€™s one thing difficult about living in France. And thatโ€™s getting recipes from a French woman. Itโ€™s not because they closely guard their secrets (which every woman has the right to do), but itโ€™s because they frequently use recipes as guidelines, rather than making them by following exact proportions and fixed preparation times. So if you ask a question about a recipe, you may getโ€ฆ

Maoz Falafel in Paris

Yes, thatโ€™s me in the corner, wolfing down falafels at Maoz. I was trying to figure out a way to break the news, but my favorite falafel place in Paris is not where you think it is. Last time I went to another joint, the French fries that came out were so light and limp that I was wondering what was going through the headโ€ฆ

Potimarron (Roasted Pumpkin)

I wonโ€™t lie to you; fall is a very difficult time of year for us bakers. Itโ€™s not that I donโ€™t like apples, pears, quince, and apples and pears, but itโ€™s always sad to see summer fruits like peaches, nectarines and the line-up of strawberry baskets disappear from the markets. And I know Iโ€™m not the only one to see stone fruits go, as thereโ€™sโ€ฆ

A la Biche au Bois

Itโ€™s a standard request. Whenever people ask for a restaurant suggestion in Paris, even before they open their mouth I know exactly whatโ€™s comingโ€”they want a suggestion for a restaurant that: 1) Serves traditional French food, 2) Is budget friendly, and 3) Has no tourists. There are plenty of budget-friendly places to eat in Paris, like Chartier and Lโ€™As du Fallafel, but ones where youโ€™llโ€ฆ
