Classic Irish Coffee

Popular legend has it that Irish Coffee was invented in San Francisco, but, of course, it was invented in Ireland at the Shannon Airport. Which was the first place transatlantic flights landed when planes started flying across the ocean, their destination being Ireland. Iโ€™m sure the trip took a lot longer than it does now. But it easy to see why the Irish Coffee wasโ€ฆ

Making Irish Butter

Who knew there was a museum of butter? Well, there is, and itโ€™s in Cork, Ireland. Of course, the country has a rich history making dairy products, but considering how supportive Iโ€™ve been of butter worldwide, it was somewhat of a pilgrimage for me to get to where it probably originated. Throughout history, butter was considered extremely valuable as it was a source of fatโ€ฆ

Mirazur

During my trip to the Cรดte dโ€™Azur with Matt and Adam, after the second or third day, we realized that we hadnโ€™t eaten in any restaurants. With the fresh ingredients available, we were preparing our own meals (pretty well, I might add), and we didnโ€™t feel the need to hand over the cooking duties to a third-party. It was a bit of heaven being inโ€ฆ

Fenocchio Ice Cream

Every time I go to Provence and the Cรดte dโ€™Azur, I keep remembering that I want to share Fenocchio ice cream with you. But Iโ€™m not all that good at sharing, when it comes to ice cream, so I hope youโ€™ll forgive me for keeping this all to myself for a while. But after tasting more than my share of their ice cream down inโ€ฆ

Matsuri Sustainable Sushi

[UPDATE: Matsuri is no longer open at the rue de Richelieu address.] When I was a teenager, we made a trip to Los Angeles and a family friend took us to a Japanese restaurant. I remember it well, because I was going through that phase where youโ€™re willing to do things on a dare, not because youโ€™re keenly interested in new experiences, but because youโ€ฆ

New York City Dining and Travel Notes

I had a wonderful trip to New York City recently and shared some of the places that I visited (see links at end of post), but there were plenty more places that I ate at, which didnโ€™t get mentioned in previous posts. So hereโ€™s a round-up of themโ€ฆ Katzโ€™s Most of the good delis are gone in New York City, but Katzโ€™s is an institutionโ€ฆ

Erin McKenna Bakery, New York City

The first place I had on my list of places to go in New York City was Erin McKennaโ€™s Bakery NYC. Ever since I saw the video of the staff having a blast, I was transfixed on going there to participate in the fun and frolic. The bakeryย is owned by Erin McKenna, and features vegan desserts made without gluten or refined sugar. Thereโ€™s also treatsโ€ฆ

Economy Candy

Iโ€™ll spare you any quips about feeling like kids in a candy store, but from the squeals of delight all around us (and there was no one under eighteen in Economy Candy), there we were, a roomful of adults, surrounded by floor-to-ceiling displays of candyโ€”from the new to the long-forgotten. And I could hear every few moments someone saying, โ€œOh my God!โ€ or โ€œI LOVEโ€ฆ

Kyochon

[UPDATE: Kyochon has closed. For excellent Korean friend chicken in New York, try BonChon, which is located a few steps from where Kyochon was.) Of course, I never heard of Kyochon. But when I was walking by it with my pal Matt, he said, โ€œOhโ€ฆKyochon!โ€ To me, it looked like another fast-food restaurant. And normally, Iโ€™m not a fan of fast-food, but Asian fast-food?
