Mon Dieu! A Hospitel?

If youโ€™re into staying in odd hotels, the most unusual one in Paris is part of Hรดtel Dieu, called Hospitel. Occupying the top floor of Parisโ€™ enormous public hospital, the hotel is adjacent to Notre Dame and features one of the most beautiful hotel lobbies in the world: a sumptuous, verdant courtyard framed by a sprawl of archways. The location of the Hรดtel Dieu wasโ€ฆ

A number of folks consult the site for information about Paris, but itโ€™s always best to get some second opinions. Food Bloggers on Columbus Isle, the Bahamas

On my vacation, I loved posting updates about what I was doing, but Iโ€™m sure you can understand that I wasnโ€™t all that keen on sitting in my room slouched over my laptop. Yes, I love and missed you all. However every relationship has its limits. And there was something more important standing between you and I: But on the 9+ hour plane ride home,โ€ฆ

French Train Mix

A lot of people love to travel. I am not quite one of them. Sure I love wandering through exotic markets, exploring restaurants in new cities, and sitting under an umbrella on the beach. But the hard part for me to deal with is getting there. I know that travel used to be romantic and fun, but itโ€™s not anymore. And people like the womanโ€ฆ

Churrasqueira Galo: Roast Chicken in Paris

Iโ€™ve hesitated about sharing this place with you, but have finally succumbed. After all, everyone has a right to find a great roast chicken place. Especially one thatโ€™s incredibly affordable. And pretty delicious. Churrasqueira Galo is a dive, a place where thereโ€™s always a lively cross section of residents of this transitioning quartier, including families out with the kids, Portuguese soccer players, and assorted dubiousโ€ฆ

Pimping My Crรชpes

Turn on the television any night in France and chances are excellent that youโ€™ll land on a program, held in a brightly-lit studio, where celebrities, authors, and other French luminaries mingle, chat, and talk about issuesโ€”or whatever they feel like. For some reason, though, they donโ€™t run a banner at the bottom while the person is talking, like they do incessantly on American television. Andโ€ฆ

Bouillon Chartier

Itโ€™ll be a sad day in Paris if Chartier ever shuts its doors. True, the food isnโ€™t exceptional. But itโ€™s cheap and people seem to flock here in droves. And the interior? I donโ€™t think youโ€™ll find a more perfectly-preserved relic of an old Paris, with glass-globe fixtures, tables jammed together, coat racks high above the tables, and a menu that hasnโ€™t made a singleโ€ฆ

Where Is the Best Duck Confit in Paris?

On her last visit to Paris, I introduced my cousin whoโ€™s a Franco-phile, to confit de canard, knowing that sheโ€™d love it. When I saw the rapture that took over when she put that first forkful in her mouth, I could see that she was hooked as I am. Iโ€™d taken her to Chez Dumonet, which is reliably excellent. This time, though, Iโ€™d like toโ€ฆ

Restaurant Jadis

Iโ€™m not much for standard restaurant โ€œreviewsโ€. I think dining is a personal experience and while one person might find a dish excellent, it might not be to another personโ€™s liking. Some folks like loud, hip places, and Iโ€™m more inclined to hit the classics. Another thing is that when I go out, I donโ€™t always tote my camera or want to have to rememberโ€ฆ
