Introducing the All-New Paris Pastry App

UPDATE: I created the Paris Pastryย app to feature and highlight hundreds of the best chocolate shops, bakeries, and pastry shops in Paris.ย  Unfortunately, the technology of building and maintaining the app eventually exceeded myย capabilities and it wasnโ€™t possible for me to update it as often as wanted to. Because of those limitations, and others, Iย made the difficult decision to remove the app for sale. Ifโ€ฆ

Update: A lโ€™Etoile dโ€™Or

[UPDATE: As of September 2022, after 46 years, Madame Acabo has retired and closed her shop in Paris. Itโ€™s now a branch of the cookie and chocolate shop of Alain Ducasse.] If youโ€™d ever stepped into A lโ€™Etoile dโ€™Or, the candy and chocolate shop located just down the hill from the Moulin Rouge windmill, near Montmartre, it wouldnโ€™t have taken you long to know youโ€ฆ

Chambelland Bakery (Gluten-free) in Paris

Iโ€™m not gluten-free, but I am a bread-lover. (fyi: I also like boulangeries, too.) And am happy to come across any kind of bread packed with grains. But I donโ€™t think all bread needs to have wheat in it. Other grains and starches โ€“ from buckwheat and rye, to cornmeal and rice flour โ€“ all make excellent breads, in the right hands. In addition toโ€ฆ

Pierre Herme Macarons

One of the things about living in a city like Paris is that you spend a lot of time โ€“ well, dealing with life. Bills to pay, paperwork to do, typos to avoid, stolen bikes to replace, smokers to dodge on sidewalks waving lit cigarettes (I got nailed the other day โ€“ ouch!), or buying a pair of shoes, can easily take up much โ€“โ€ฆ

Eclairs in Paris

Iโ€™m often asked about upcoming trends and each time it happens, I am sorely tempted to respond, โ€œIf I could see the future, Iโ€™d be buying lottery tickets.โ€ I guess it makes good press โ€“ but the unfortunate thing about most trends is that they are often temporary. (In many cases, itโ€™s a relief to see them go when their time is up.) Yet otherโ€ฆ

Le chocolat Alain Ducasse

I donโ€™t think thereโ€™s anyone happier than I am now that we now have our very own bean-to-bar chocolate maker in Paris. I remember when the movement started in America, and small chocolate manufacturers started popping up in the most unlikeliest of places by people curious about roasting and sourcing their own beans, then grinding them into smooth tablets of chocolate. I was impressed, butโ€ฆ

Jacques Genin

I first met Jacques Genin a number of years ago when he was (somewhat famously) working out of a battered storefront, on an uninteresting street deep in the 15th arrondissement of Paris. I say โ€œfamouslyโ€ because as he became quite a bit better known, many folks learning about him through Mort Rosenblumโ€™s book, Chocolate: A Bittersweet Saga of Light and Dark. And subsequently, people startedโ€ฆ

Rochouxโ€™s Hazelnut Praline Paste

I probably shouldnโ€™t admit this, but I rarely go over to the Saint Germain des Prรจs area much. I know, itโ€™s a popular destination for many, but if I head over there, itโ€™s usually for one thing, and one thing only: Chocolate. Most of the chocolatiers are clustered over there because, well, if you can afford to live over there, thatโ€™s where most of theโ€ฆ
