Bad English Lesson

Iโ€™ve been teaching English to a couple of my friends here, and the other day I tossed in a phrase theyโ€™d never heard before: โ€˜Sit yo ass down.โ€™ After I said it, I realized Iโ€™d made a rather important error, so I corrected myself: โ€˜Sit yo ass down, bitch.โ€™ I also accompanied it with a raised index finger moving side-to-side with my head moving fromโ€ฆ

Blog Notes

Kudos! A big congratulations to Karen Page and Andrew Dornenburg for winning the IACP Cookbook of the Year with What You Drink With What You Eat. Out of the seemingly zillions of cookbooks that come out each year, to be recognized by your peers so highly is quite an honor. And just in case you forgot, you heard about it here first with my interviewโ€ฆ.

And I Am Telling You Iโ€™m Not Going

Last weekend I wanted to see Dreamgirls. Unfortunately, though, Dreamgirls had come-and-gone through Paris already. Movies do that around here; if you hesitate, theyโ€™re gone by the time youโ€™re ready to see them. Kinda like waiting in line in Paris; if youโ€™re not ready when itโ€™s your turn, thereโ€™s someone ready to hop in front and take your place. However it was playing in aโ€ฆ

Weird Food

The previous post got me thinkingโ€ฆ Whatโ€™s the weirdest, most unusual thing youโ€™ve ever eaten? Leave it in the comments! (And this has nothing to do with this topic, but this is the most unusually-focused, in-depth food blog Iโ€™ve ever seen. Who knew?)

Horse Milk

Sometimes when Iโ€™m dining with others, the conversation has a way of drifting towards organ meats. Which we Americans, in general, tend to avoid. I guess it makes us an easy target and since I donโ€™t like them much either, you may as well paint a bulls-eye on my foreheadโ€ฆ โ€œYou Americans!โ€ I hear, โ€œYou are afraid to eat anything.โ€ But by now, Iโ€™ve gottenโ€ฆ

Paris Chocolate Tour: May 6-12

Just a note that thereโ€™s just one space left on my upcoming Paris Chocolate Exploration Tour with chocolate-expert, author Mort Rosenblum. Included in this week-long adventure is a demonstration at the exclusive laboratoire of chocolatier Jacques Genin, a private chocolate tasting at La Maison du Chocolat, a shopping tour of one of the best outdoor markets in Paris, and in-depth visits to the most spectacularโ€ฆ

Ciao, Illy

Since itโ€™s the end of the week, or depending on when youโ€™re reading this, itโ€™s the beginning of the week, I thought Iโ€™d finish up with some of my last images and thoughts from my time hosted by Illy coffee in Trieste. Without a doubt the most popular person in Trieste is the barista at Illyโ€™s coffee bar for the employees. From the moment weโ€ฆ

Should Water Be Free?

Several restaurants in America recently decided theyโ€™re going to stop serving bottled water for ecological reasons, in spite of fact that sales of pricey bottled water are perhaps a significant source of revenue, which helps them stay in business. Some argue that water should be free of charge and shouldnโ€™t be โ€˜commoditizedโ€™ while thereโ€™s an opposing arguement that water is a precious resource and isโ€ฆ
