This weekend, I’ll be having an informal booksigning in Paris.

The event will take place on Saturday, September 12 from 2-3:30pm at A la Boîte bouquiniste, 31 quai de Conti. (Map)

There will be copies of all three of my books; The Sweet Life in Paris, The Perfect Scoop, and The Great Book of Chocolate available.

Copies of The Sweet Life in Paris and The Perfect Scoop will be €20, and The Great Book of Chocolate is €12. Please bring exact change as there isn’t any way to provide change at la boîte.

    Hi David, i cannot believe I am going to miss it, I returned from Paris on the 2nd September. I had a brilliant time, with friends. It was amazing. Cannot wait to get back over .. hope everyone has a good time at your signing.

    I’m so sorry I’ll be missing the book signing! I live in Dublin now, but lived in Paris for a few years before moving here. I just purchased “The Sweet Life in Paris” this past weekend and am LOVING it. I’ll be passing it onto my husband to read once I’m finished. (He’s Irish and I’m American – we had the pleasure of decoding things like Parisian apartment rentals together. Ah, the joys of French banks and landlords! Sorely missed.) Had a bit of a time finding it, though – not ONE bookstore seemed to stock it here in Ireland, so I had to have it ordered! Two weeks later, and it was definitely worth the wait. Can’t wait to finish it – and I’ll have to time my next visit to Paris to coincide with a book signing!

    Lily: I’d love to come back to Seattle. Unfortunately I can only go places where the publisher wants to send me, and they haven’t indicated a visit there. Please have some Theo chocolate for me until I can make it back!

    What is this “all three of my books” baloney? The one I want is not mentioned at all. Is it now totally out of print and unavailable (except on Amazon for $60 a pop)?

    David – We were in Paris last September and wish we were there now for your book signing.

    I purchased the Perfect Scoop and LOVE it. It’s my favorite ice cream book. I made the Turron a few weekend s ago (right down to the candied orange peel) for a Spanish-themed dinner party and eveyone flipped. Love the texture as well as the flavors. Thanks for a great recipe as well as story.

    Oakjoan, aka Grumpy: Unfortunately my first two books are out-of-print, as changes in the publishing industry prompted that publisher to discontinue a majority of their cookbooks. But hey…you did have 8 years to pick up a copy! : )

    The good news is that there is going to be an updated edition of my recipes from there, published in another format in the future.

    Dear David – I bought ‘The Sweet Life in Paris’ some time back and held off on reading it, well, because I wanted to savor it. Ok go ahead and laugh. I don’t mind. Anyway, on a short trip to India last weekend, I picked up the book to keep me company during the flight and transits, and boy, was I glad I did. My fellow travellers were giving me strange looks as I couldn’t help bursting out into laughter every so often as I read about your triumphs and travails in Paris. When I arrived in India and a gentleman with an expansive waistline keep bumping into my back, I was very very tempted to turn around to ask him to buy me a drink first. The only thing that stopped me was that he looked like he WOULD actually jump at the chance to buy strange ladies drinks…

    Did I happen to mention that I love this book as with all your other books which I was so lucky to get? Keep it coming, David.

    Oh no! I’m going to be in Paris on the 16th and was really hoping to catch one of your book signings. I can’t believe I’m just going to miss it by a couple of days. One of the first things I was planning to do in Paris was go buy the Sweet Life. It’s still not available in Egypt. Don’t suppose you’ll be doing any signings in Cairo any time soon?

    David,
    I made your lime tart again and this time the lime juice,sugar,egg,etc mixture firmed up faster. It took about 10 to 15 minutes as opposed to the last time when it took over 30 minutes. I brought to my office here in Paris. My French colleagues thought it was fantastic. I think when I make it again this weekend for a friendly BBQ in the suburbs..it will firm up even faster. I might be tempted to turn up the heat a little bit but I certainly do not want the eggs to scramble. Not sure if I am such a risk taker.

    Speaking of appearances, I will miss you at Omnivore Books in SF on Sept. 28- Yom Kippur. When and where else will you be this visit that I might see you? I went to Bi-Rite Creamery last year to have my beloved Perfect Scoop signed. You looked dandy in your very French orange socks. Looking forward to your SF stay and bringing you an armload of your books to sign. Thanks for all the all terrific work, humor and love.

    Hi Wendy: The other events and appearances in the Bay Area are listed on my Schedule page. Can’t promise the orange socks, though. I think they flipped out too many staid San Franciscans.

    Since one cannot find any of your books here in Brazil (even in importer bookshops), when I went to Paris on July, I tried to find the Perfect Scoop there.

    Strange that I couldn’t find them even at FNAC, which is a very complete bookshop here: they have good import depts in Sao Paulo, but in Paris I couldn’t find a single book in English.

    Anyway, I remembered reading here in your blog about the La Cocotte book signing for the “Sweet Life in Paris”, and I decided to give it a shot going there.

    Although they were closed (it was a Monday and I didn’t know they close that day), a very nice lady welcomed me (she was the owner’s mother I think), and helped me getting both The Perfect Scoop (which was in a ice-cream shelf) and The Sweet Life (which was being showcased with in a pretty distinguished central table). I guess she felt pity for a poor guy from South America going all the way to visit them.

    I was treated so well, and thought that the store was so cute and nice, with all those books, and ingredients and utensils, that I told her that store is probably the “cook’s heaven in Paris”.

    My experience in buying your book definitely turned reading “The Sweet Life in Paris” a bit sweeter. :-)

    Thanks Alberto, and am glad that Andrea and the folks at La Cocotte could help you out. Book distribution is difficult overseas, so unless a foreign publisher buys the rights to a book, shipping a case of books really adds on to the cost for consumers.

    The Book Depository has a large selection of books, is the UK, and ships worldwide for free. (Prices are in euros.)

    What a shame I’m nowhere near Paris! But I’ll be there in spirit! I just got “The Perfect Scoop” and absolutely love it! Hot, sticky weather in SoCal has propmpted me to make vanilla and chocolate already and I have to say, the additional techniques employed make the ice cream turn out so far superior to anything else I’ve ever made. Thumbs up all around from my family! Now that I’m turning out higher quality homemade ice cream than I have in the past it’s time to invest in a higher quality ice cream machine – one that doesn’t just randomly quit turning 6 minutes into the whole affair!

    Well, I thought about working out at the local Club Med on Saturday ( yes, I took your advice some time ago David and purchased a refurbished Cuisinart ice-cream maker…made fresh mango ice cream last night, yummy but f -a_ – _ – _ – _- i -n-g!) Last time I missed your book signing, but not this time, un petit cadeau pour mon anniversaire. A bientot, Chef! Phyllis :)

    Well, I’ve just spent the most of the last 3 &1/2 days reading your entire blog all the way back to 2005. I don’t remember where or how I got here but, boy, I’m glad I did.
    You had me by the first paragraph of Le Glaneur! I’ve cried laughing (lasagne) and just cried (the piece on Marion Cunningham). You are a truly wonderful story teller, never was I bored, nor did you repeat yourself (much) in 4 years of blogging, that in itself is genius. How do you do it?

    I will assume that you are as wonderful a chef as a raconteur, as all your essays come from nowhere but your heart, your enthusiasm for food made reading addicting. Every bit you ate, drank or cooked made me desire the item, your descriptions were so vivid.

    I am now a devoted fan of David Lebovitz!

    Dang it, I just came back from a lovely trip to Paris yesterday…I’d love to have made it to the signing as well but I guess I’ll have to be content with the memory of the numerous pain au chocolats and cafe cremes that I’ve consumed in the few days I was there :)

    I missed the last signing and now will miss this one. I am a flight attendant who is in Paris at least once a week…I was there last Saturday but am there this Friday! I have your books and will patiently await the next signing.

    I was glad to see you discovered “our” bakery on rue Glaciere. The cat’s out of the bag now!

    Denise from Denver here.
    I just made your chocolate ice cream recipe. Right now. I just finished licking the bowl. I must say, though, that when I warmed the milk+sugar+salt, the whole thing was so thin that I did not believe it would turn into a custard. I doubted you, mea culpa. But my experiences with custards have been the sugar plus the eggs first. I was ready to throw everything away, complaining about the raw milk or the pan (not you of course) or my incompetence in making the recipe, when, to my gratifying surprise, it turned (very very fast) into the custard you described in your book. I learned one more thing today! Never doubt David Lebovitz, at least when it comes to desserts.
    By the by, I am finishing your book about Paris. It does remind me of my very very short time there. Now when I go back I have a lot more to look forward to! I am loving the book!

    Ah man, wish I had seen this sooner! I just bought The Sweet Life when I was in the US last month and would have loved to get it signed. Unfortunately I am waiting for some folks to come by and pick up at cupcakes today at exactly 2 & 3:30. :(

    I love your book!! I have a previous edition and always recommend to my friends as the best one for ice cream. I’ve tried many recipes but love the ones made with fruit. Have a friend from California that always asks to have his mango ice cream when he comes to visit.
