โ€œThis isnโ€™t your house?
Paris is your house!

A dog dรจjection left on a sidewalk is a 183โ‚ฌ fine.
30,000 garbage cans are at your disposal in Parisโ€

(If you think itโ€™s icky looking at this on your computer, this sidewalk billboard faces the tables at an outdoor restaurant and cafรจ. Imagine looking at that while enjoying dinner!)

I have yet to see anybody picking up after their dog here. Somehow I donโ€™t think Iโ€™ll ever see it.

    Amanda,
The โ€œmotocrottesโ€ are alive and well, at least in Neuilly where I spotted one in person. For those unfamiliar with these marvels of technology, they are basically motorscooters with a vacuum hose attached to each side which the driver uses to suck up the doggy-doo-doo left by uncaring dog owners.
    My kids LOVE them :-)

I have actually seen three different people pickโ€™n up the poo. They have all been in the 15eme, and over 40ish. I HAVE congratulated each and every one of them.

As for the fine โ€“ there has been a fine in effect for a few years, however there has yet to be a budget allocation for enforcing the law. Ahhhhh le libertรƒยฉ.

    How can I get a โ€˜motocrotteโ€™?

When I was in Cannes in โ€™95 there musnโ€™t have been a campaign like this. I would have liked to give a couple ladies some fines.

It good that Paris is finally cleaning up the โ€œmessโ€.

P.S. I have to say that some people do let their animal โ€œdo their businessโ€ in the house. I have been shopping for a new home and went to a house and the was some water stains on the stairway bannister. The water stains were bad enough to have got into the wood and turn it brown. Puzzled I looked at the rail and then up at the ceiling. There didnโ€™t seem to be a leak and this part of the house had no water pipes. I turned to the real estate agent and said, โ€œWhere did the come from?โ€, she replied, โ€œthey have a dogโ€.

I replied, โ€œTime to take the dog to the pound.โ€

AAAAK! I saw this ad just as I nearly stepped heel-first in a fresh โ€œcrotteโ€! I had a friend in town in AUgust who commented on how clean the streets wereโ€ฆ.i told her that was because most Parisians, and their football sized dogs, were all en vacances!

Eww. I once came home to find that a housemateโ€™s visitorโ€™s dog had left a lovely surprise in my bedroom. Needless to say the dog was banished to the backyard and the visitor cleaned up the mess.

Back to this issue though, I am always amazed at people who do not pick up after their dog when they take them on walks. Really people!
