Pozole

Iโ€™m one of those people that doesnโ€™t order soup when I go out to eat. I guess I feel like soup is something that I should be eating at home. While words like โ€œcomfort foodโ€ and โ€œnourishingโ€ are easy-to-reach descriptions to attach to soup, I try not to overthink it. It just seems like home is the right place to be, to spoon up aโ€ฆ

Cobb Salad

The first avocado I ever had was at Scandia restaurant in Los Angeles and I hated it. The slippery little green cubes avoided my fork, until finally, I managed to spear one. Once I did, I swallowed it โ€“ reluctantly,ย then avoided the rest of them on my plate. Iโ€™m not sure how I came to eventually love avocados, but the city of Los Angeles isโ€ฆ

Whole-Wheat Sunflower Seed Rye Bread

I had a phone interview the other day, and the journalist was so nice and interesting that we ended up talking about a whole bunch of other subjects that we didnโ€™t intend to talk about. The second memory I have, was shortly after when we sat downโ€ฆ

Avocado Coconut Ice Cream

When I was younger, we used to go to a restaurant in Los Angeles, the long-gone Scandia. It was one of those places where they would wheel up the salad cart, and toss a big bowl of salad right at your table. Since some members of my family went there a lot, they made a special salad for us, which had lots of finely choppedโ€ฆ

Guacamole

Okay, show of hands โ€“ who likes guacamole more than I do? Okayโ€ฆ Now that thatโ€™s settled, who was more thrilled that I was to score a batch of freshly fried tortilla chips and a big bag of just-about ripe Haas avocados this week? Iโ€™m not asking any more questions, I promise. Because the answers were right here in my kitchen. Although what some peopleโ€ฆ

Les Vacances

The French really have it right with the five weeks of paid vacation a good number of them get a year. Itโ€™s a great way to truly relax and one week isnโ€™t enough. I know, because my stingy boss (โ€ฆand that would be me) limited my vacation to a measly seven days. But for that one week, I took part in the annual mass exodusโ€ฆ
