One of the lesser-known French pastries is Bostock. Perhaps itโ€™s the funny name that doesnโ€™t sound very French, as pain au chocolat or chausson aux pommes do, thatโ€™s been keeping it out of the spotlight. True, the name does sound like a Swiss bouillon mix and although Iโ€™ve read itโ€™s from Normandy, I havenโ€™t found any conclusive evidence of that. But wherever itโ€™s from, theโ€ฆ

Philou

[UPDATE: Philou closed in 2019 and a new restaurant opened in its place, Lโ€™Angรฉlus du Canal.] I always want to put Philou in my Paris favorites list. Itโ€™s got so much going for it; a friendly staff, itโ€™s just enough out-of-the way that it attracts a good mix of mostly people who live in the neighborhood with others who come from other parts of theโ€ฆ

Cafe Pouchkine

In Paris, a city full of spectacular pastry shops, it really takes something major to grab me by the shoulders and shake me to attention. Itโ€™s not that I donโ€™t appreciate the other ones, but when you see something as jaw-dropping as the pastries at Cafรฉ Pouchkine, you canโ€™t help but stop and stand at full attention.
