A Visit to the Mauviel Copper Cookware Factory

Iโ€™ll never pass up a chance to go to a factory, whether it be to see how Americanย stand mixers are made, or French enameled cookware. Iโ€™d never seenย copper cookware being made,ย though, and jumped at the opportunity to hop on an early morning train to Villedieu-les poรชles to visit the Mauviel copper cookware factory. (The only thing I didnโ€™t jump at was the bleary 7:30am departureโ€ฆ

Helmut Newcake, Gluten-Free Bakery in Paris

Ever since I heard word it, Iโ€™ve been anxious to try Helmut Newcake, whatโ€™s been heralded as the first gluten-free bakery in Paris. While a couple of bakeries and natural food shops offer gluten-free bread, theyโ€™re invariably made somewhere where other breads are made (risking cross-contamination with wheat flour), or the salesclerks simply stack the gluten-free breads with the regular ones, which is little comfortโ€ฆ

Floriole

Lest anyone think I spent the entire week in Chicago wolfing down nothing but Mexican food, gobbling up hamburgers, and chugging hot chocolate, one day I actually took a breather and headed up to Lincoln Park to Floriole. The minute I walked in, I knew Iโ€™d found somewhere special.
