La Ferme de Viltain

Itโ€™s not a drag to be in Paris in August. In fact, those who stay in town always say the same thing โ€“ โ€œThis is the best time of year to be in Paris.โ€ (Or, โ€œWouldnโ€™t it be incroyableย if it was like this all year?โ€) Even though Paris is a lot smaller, imagineย if 85% of the people left New York City or San Francisco inโ€ฆ

The Marche dโ€™Aligre in Paris

When I moved to Paris, I didnโ€™t liveย far from the Marchรฉ dโ€™Aligre. Not known for having a great sense of direction or distance, I didnโ€™t know how close I was and would take the bus home, loaded down with my purchases from the market. There was a closer market in the Bastille, but the Aligre market was especially bustling, and had an energy and dynamicโ€ฆ

Spaghetti Pie

Iโ€™m kind of a nitwit in social situations. Consider last spring (or was it summer?), when I was at a party in New York, I met Justin Chapple. A bunch of us chatted casually over cocktails in our friendโ€™sย backyard, but I found out later he is the Mad Genius over at Food &ย Wine and heโ€™s on television and all that good stuff. After I foundโ€ฆ

Epicure Restaurant at The Bristol Hotel

It was quite a summer, starting with sipping homemade cherry wine, a picnic at Versailles, checking outย the Le Creuset factory, and frying up a batch of โ€œFrenchโ€ fried chicken in a sizzling pan ofย duck fat. A few weeks later inย the season, I was pulling a cherry clafoutis from my oven, grilling deviled chicken, and pickling strawberries, to take care of the overload from the outdoorโ€ฆ

Endive and Ham Gratin

Iโ€™ve had a lot of visitors this season and everyone, of course, wanted me to pick a restaurant where to meet up. It was great to see so many long-lost friends, but since it was two meals a day for a couple of weeks, my โ€œidea listโ€ began to run dry. And while I have a bunch of places that I personally want to try,โ€ฆ

Au Sauvignon

I was recently reading a Paris-based website and a reader had written to them, asking them why they were always talking about restaurants in the 10th arrondissement where โ€œ.. there isnโ€™t much to do there.โ€ The response was that thatโ€™s where most of the new and interesting places are opening. And while itโ€™s not where most visitors dream about staying when they come to Paris,โ€ฆ

Camembert de Normandie

Althought itโ€™s hard to blame it, my camera ate all of my Camembert de Normandie (pictures), which I discovered when I went to download them. I was miffed (to say the leastโ€ฆ), but in the end, decided that it was tough to blame my mischievous machine because I understand how hard it is to be around a perfectly ripe Camembert de Normandie and not wantโ€ฆ

Our Tour de France, Part 2

I, myself, have recovered better than my cameraโ€™s memory card, which is en route back to Sony, who said they would try to recover the rest of my trip photos. (Yes, I tried recovering software, none of which worked. And I passed on local outfit in Paris, who said they could give it a tryโ€ฆfor โ‚ฌ400 to โ‚ฌ1000.) So in lieu of me shelling outโ€ฆ
