15 Things Iโ€™d Miss About Paris If I Moved Away

At a recent book event, there was a little Q & A session after I chatted and read from my new book. The only guidelines were that I told people that two questions were off limits. One was; โ€œWhy did you move to Paris?โ€, and the other โ€œHow long are you planning on living in Paris?โ€ Because I get asked them at least six timesโ€ฆ

Paris Favorites: Eating, Drinking and Shopping

A number of folks consult the site for information about Paris, but itโ€™s always best to get some second opinions. So I asked a few friends and in-the-know colleagues about their favorite places around the city, and Iโ€™m happy to share them with you. Included are links, when available, for complete addresses and additional contact information. Hours change and places close in Paris without noticeโ€ฆ

Simple, Little Chocolate Ice Cream Sandwiches

When I was writing and churning up recipes for my ice cream book, I heard through the transatlantic wind that another ice cream book was coming out. Itโ€™s hard not to be influenced by others when writing and creating recipes, and even though I was sent a copy, I didnโ€™t want to look through it, so I gave it a cursory glance, then shelved itโ€ฆ

Joe Coffee

Weโ€™ve been doing quite a bit of shopping here in New York. Romain has been here before, but never with an โ€˜almostโ€™ local. (I grew up next door.) Sure, heโ€™s been all the museums, but heโ€™s never been to places as uniquely American as Bed, Bath & Beyond, TJ Maxx, and Old Navy, where we saw the woman who played Janice on The Sopranos loadingโ€ฆ

Tiramisu Recipe

Although Iโ€™ve often been critical of the French trend towards putting food in silly little glasses, called verrines, once again, I find myself eating my words around here. On a recent trip to Ikea (I knowโ€ฆI know what I saidโ€ฆ) I saw these great little glass candle holders and thought theyโ€™d be perfect for servings of somethingโ€ฆlike, sayโ€ฆindividual portions of Tiramisu. Which are great forโ€ฆ

Where to Find a Good Cup of Coffee in Paris

Because of all the changes in the Paris coffee scene, Iโ€™ve been updating this post regularly as a good number of places have opened in the last few years in Paris, that focus on well-crafted, artisan coffees. Itโ€™s been a wonderful revolution taking place, as many people โ€“ some French, others from Australia and the United States, have been conscientiously been upgrading the quality ofโ€ฆ

Chocolate Mousse Recipe

My search for the perfect, most luscious and intenseย chocolate mousseย brought me right back from France, to America, to Julia Childโ€™s recipe. Although I have a few other chocolate mousse recipesย in my repertoire, her recipe is a classic and has that perfect slightly stickyย texture, that sticks to your tastebuds, then hits you withย a wallop of pure dark chocolate flavor. This recipe requires a bit of whippingโ€ฆ.

Espresso Granita Affogato Recipe

In terms of desserts, it doesnโ€™t get much easier than this. Affogato means โ€˜drownedโ€™ in Italian, and any frozen dessert can meet this fate by tippling a little liquor or coffee over it. Classically, espresso is poured over Vanilla Ice Cream, but youโ€™d have to be pretty hard-core to pour espresso over Espresso Granita. If I did that, Iโ€™d be ricocheting off the walls aroundโ€ฆ

Austin, Texas

Before I high-tail it outta Austin, I thought Iโ€™d share a few things I ate while here. The tour of ice cream shops around town will have to wait until Iโ€™m back home, but there were plenty of other things to sampleโ€ฆ. Austin is the hip townโ€ฆor city, in Texas. I say โ€˜townโ€™ because it feels more like a big town than the capital ofโ€ฆ
