Tomato Tart

I didnโ€™t know what to make for dinner the other night. I had some tart dough tucked away in the freezer, and because I was having trouble closing the door (erโ€ฆwhat else is new?), I realized it was time to clear some of the stuff out. But I also had some beautiful tomatoes on hand, and a tub of fromage frais (fresh spreadable cheese), whichโ€ฆ

Cafe du Coin

Iโ€™m often asked by people coming to Paris what neighborhood they should stay in. The usual โ€œoff-the-beaten-pathโ€ฆbut not too far from the centerโ€ doesnโ€™t help me figure out what fits those seemingly opposing bills. Everything in Paris is pretty close and most places are a 20 minute mรฉtro ride away. Like most cities, the good places arenโ€™t clustered in the center of the city. Theyโ€™reโ€ฆ

Tuna Melt Zucchini Casserole

Someone was once trying out for a job at a restaurant I worked at, who cooked a meal that had a course which paired fish with cheese. I donโ€™t recall if he got the job or not, but I do remember someone in the kitchen muttering, โ€œEveryone knows that fish and cheese donโ€™t go together.โ€ย I donโ€™t know who gave him that information, but everyone whoโ€ฆ

Moissonnier

Call me old-fashioned, but sometimes I like old-fashioned places. One place that does old-fashioned especially well is France. But Iโ€™m not the only one who feels that way; people come from around the world to visit the city, and baskย in the ร  lโ€™ancienne charm, which is sometimes derisively described as carte postaleย Paris. Like other cities, Paris is changing and isnโ€™t a museum, per se, butโ€ฆ

La Ferme de Viltain

Itโ€™s not a drag to be in Paris in August. In fact, those who stay in town always say the same thing โ€“ โ€œThis is the best time of year to be in Paris.โ€ (Or, โ€œWouldnโ€™t it be incroyableย if it was like this all year?โ€) Even though Paris is a lot smaller, imagineย if 85% of the people left New York City or San Francisco inโ€ฆ

The Marche dโ€™Aligre in Paris

When I moved to Paris, I didnโ€™t liveย far from the Marchรฉ dโ€™Aligre. Not known for having a great sense of direction or distance, I didnโ€™t know how close I was and would take the bus home, loaded down with my purchases from the market. There was a closer market in the Bastille, but the Aligre market was especially bustling, and had an energy and dynamicโ€ฆ

Spaghetti Pie

Iโ€™m kind of a nitwit in social situations. Consider last spring (or was it summer?), when I was at a party in New York, I met Justin Chapple. A bunch of us chatted casually over cocktails in our friendโ€™sย backyard, but I found out later he is the Mad Genius over at Food &ย Wine and heโ€™s on television and all that good stuff. After I foundโ€ฆ
