Marche des Producteurs de Pays

This week France rather quietly announced that visitors from the U.S. and Canada were allowed to come to the country without any restrictions. Things are still moving in the direction of getting back to normal, and while last year is still sort of a haze to me, I believe the markets in Paris remained open the entire time, operating under different conditions. Outdoor markets areโ€ฆ

Our Tour de France

The French often say, โ€œThereโ€™s no need to leave France โ€“ we have everything here!โ€ While itโ€™s easy to brush it off as chauvinism, itโ€™s true โ€” for a country that could fit inside of Texas, there is a huge diversity of climates and terrains in one, single country. You can find everything in lโ€™hexagone, from the windy shores of Brittany (where weโ€™ve huddled aroundโ€ฆ

10 Goofy Foods Youโ€™ll Find in a French Supermarket

1. Mes 4 Croissants Poppinโ€™ fraรฎche has gone global and even with over 1200 bakeries in Paris, why would anyone bother walk all the way across the street to get a fresh, buttery croissant in the morning, that only costs 90 centimes, when you can simply unroll a package of doughy crescents and never slip out of that comfy peignoir de bain? For all youโ€ฆ

Princess Crepe

{UPDATE: Princess Crรชpes closed in September 2019.} I wasnโ€™t on planning on going to Princess Crรชpe, which Iโ€™d passed a while back and was intrigued (for lack of a better word) by their unusual look. Well it was โ€œdifferentโ€, as my mother used to politely make me say when something was out-of-the-ordinary. If we were in Harajuku, itโ€™d fit right in. But in Paris, thisโ€ฆ

Paris Restaurants

Iโ€™m just finishing up my Paris Chocolate Tours with guests this week and weโ€™ve had a terrific time visiting everywhere from Rungis market to watching the talented confectioners at Fouquet work their sweet magic. Because several folks were spending a couple extra days in Paris, I made up a list of some places to eat they might enjoy, that arenโ€™t stuffy or too-expensive, but placesโ€ฆ

10 Things to Do If Youโ€™re Stuck in Paris

Yesterday, I was passing through the Place de lโ€™Opรฉra, and saw this mob outside the Air France office. And the line snaked around the block. I took a picture and went home to happily finish packing for my trip, which was going to start tomorrow. I must be living in a volcanic cloud of my own, and indeed, when I woke up, there was anโ€ฆ

West Country Girl

[UPDATE: As of early summer 2017, West Country Girl has closed.] Thereโ€™s a new girl (and guy) in town. And she owns a small crรชperie which is one of my favorite little addresses in Paris and worth a visit, in spite what some might feel is a relatively obscure address. To me, though, itโ€™s not all that obscure because Iโ€™ve forged a pretty clear pathโ€ฆ

Socca Recipe

When people come to Paris, they ask me where who makes the best cassoulet or where can they find bouillabaisse. When I tell them, โ€œThose arenโ€™t really available here.โ€ย  โ€œWell, arenโ€™t they French?โ€ theyโ€™ll reply. Yes, they are indeed. But to get the best examples of regional specialties in France, you need to go to the region theyโ€™re from. Hence my frequent visits to Nice,โ€ฆ

Pimping My Crรชpes

Turn on the television any night in France and chances are excellent that youโ€™ll land on a program, held in a brightly-lit studio, where celebrities, authors, and other French luminaries mingle, chat, and talk about issuesโ€”or whatever they feel like. For some reason, though, they donโ€™t run a banner at the bottom while the person is talking, like they do incessantly on American television. Andโ€ฆ
