Pretzel Bites

Bakers and pastry chefsย crave two things: Salt and vinegar. When I worked in the restaurant business and got home way after midnight, too-often Iโ€™d park myself in front of the television, put my dogs up, and dig into a bag of tortilla chips along with a big jar of spicy salsa. Of course, I was half the age I am now and a bag ofโ€ฆ

White Bean Dip

I canโ€™t believe that after all these years, Iโ€™ve never made white bean dip. Iโ€™ve made dips with eggplant, chickpeas, eggplant again, and even weeds, if you can believe it. French Onion Dip

A few weeks ago, I made plans to meet my friend Terresa in Pigalle, to check out a new รฉpicerie (specialty food shop). I donโ€™t know if youโ€™re familiar with Pigalle, but the area has a certain well-deserved โ€˜reputationโ€™ and if youโ€™re a middle-aged man walking around by yourself in the evening, casually looking in the windows of the cafรฉs and bars, donโ€™t be surprisedโ€ฆ

Baba Ganoush Recipe

French people often drink apรฉritifs before dinner, but rarely cocktails. Americans who come to Paris are often perplexed when the waiter asks them: โ€œVous desirez un apรฉritif?โ€ and a few minutes later, theyโ€™re handed a glass of red Martini & Rossi instead of the straight-up, dry martini that they thought they had ordered. And another heads-up: tourists are equally perplexed when the check arrives andโ€ฆ
