Le 6 Paul Bert

[Update: 6 Paul Bert is now closed. The restaurant is currently a pop-up space, featuring different chefs, known as Le Bistrot Tontine. Visit them on Instagram to find out the latest news about chefs cooking there.] Itโ€™s rare that I find a restaurant where I wouldnโ€™t change a thing. I donโ€™t consider myself picky or a tough customer (others might say otherwise); itโ€™s just myโ€ฆ

ยกHola, Mil Amores Tortilleria!

So weโ€™ve had the first bean-to-bar chocolate maker open in Paris. And now we have homemade tortillas. Or as I call them, โ€œTwo more reasons to stay put.โ€ Which also means I can give the valuable luggage space I was devoting to lugging corn tortillas back from the states to something else โ€“ like pecans and memory foam slippers.

Split Pea Soup

We donโ€™t always get snow in Paris in the winter. But when we do,ย it blanketsย the city with a brilliantย layer of snow. It illuminates what can be gray and drab, and brightens things up when everyoneโ€™s spirits areย beginning to sag. People tend to stay indoors or huddle in cafรฉs, drinking hot chocolate or vin chaud, hot mulled wine.

Tuck Shop

ย  ย  [Update: Tuck shop has now closed.] There are so many of these places opening in Paris that itโ€™s making my head spin, in a good way. Way back when, in 2008, when I did a post on where to get good coffee in Paris, there were just a handful of places listed. Now I canโ€™t keep up! So along comes a little place,โ€ฆ

Le chocolat Alain Ducasse

I donโ€™t think thereโ€™s anyone happier than I am now that we now have our very own bean-to-bar chocolate maker in Paris. I remember when the movement started in America, and small chocolate manufacturers started popping up in the most unlikeliest of places by people curious about roasting and sourcing their own beans, then grinding them into smooth tablets of chocolate. I was impressed, butโ€ฆ

East Side Burgers: Vegetarian Burgers in Paris

Two trends have swept across Paris over the past few years, which, paradoxically, are somewhat at odds with each other. Who would have predicted a decade ago that hamburgers and vegetarianism would both be buzzwords on the Paris food scene? One of the good things about the burger movement is that instead of the wan, overpriced (โ‚ฌ15 and up) burgers that had been served inโ€ฆ

French Honey

I had to put a moratorium on jam-making this year because I realized I had enough jam to last a normal person, who doesnโ€™t have a French partner, at least ten years. (Iโ€™m not naming any names, but one Frenchman in particular can go through half a jar at one breakfast alone.) But one thing I canโ€™t make is honey, in spite of the factโ€ฆ

In Praise of Sesame Baguettes in Paris

I suppose Iโ€™m doing all those things the diet-police are advising against โ€“ namely having fat and carbohydrates for breakfast in lieu of โ€œhealthierโ€ options, like having a bowl of kale-flecked quinoa or downing a cilantro smoothie. But as much as I like fruits and vegetables (and herbs), the only thing I am able to face first thing in the morning is something a littleโ€ฆ

Free Download of Paris Pastry Guide!

UPDATE: Welcome to my website. I created the Paris Pastryย app guide to feature and highlight hundreds of the best chocolate shops, bakeries, and pastry shops in Paris.ย Unfortunately the technology of building and maintaining the app eventually exceeded myย capabilities and it wasnโ€™t possible for me to update it as often as wanted to. Because of those limitations, and others, Iย made the difficult decision to remove theโ€ฆ
