Thanksgiving Recipes

Itโ€™s that time of the year again. When bakers, cooks, and even bartenders, are baking, roasting, and shaking things up for the holidays. Hereโ€™s a round-up of recipes from my blog, my personal favorites, that are great for Thanksgiving and winter holiday fรชtes.ย There are cakes, cocktails, spreads, dips, candied nuts, cheesecake, ice creamโ€ฆand more! Salted Chocolate Chip Tahini Cookies

Whenever I mention โ€œChocolate Chip Cookies,โ€ this recipe seems to come up in the conversation. Iโ€™ve been making chocolate chip cookies all of my life, and am always happy to add new ones to my repertoire. Iโ€™ve made them with various kinds of flours, different types (and sizes) of chocolate, some with nuts (or cocoa nibs), and others without. In some cases, the salt inโ€ฆ

Survey saysโ€ฆ

Thanks so much to the 6188 people who responded to my survey that I launched at the beginning of August, before taking a summer break. (Which I wrote about in my September newsletter.) Iโ€™m back in the saddle, so to speak, and I thought Iโ€™d share some of the results with you. Thereโ€™s been a huge shift in blogs over the last decade. Most ofโ€ฆ

Stay-at-Home Recipes

Iโ€™ve been working on some recipes to share on the blog, then the confinement hit, and going to the supermarket or obtaining ingredients became more of a challenge. Having lived in earthquake country, I started buying a few extra things in the last few weeks, especially seeing what was happening to our neighbors in Italy. Being a baker, Iโ€™m fortunate that I always have flour,โ€ฆ

Quick Mincemeat recipe

The word Mincemeat doesnโ€™t quite inspire the same rapture that it does in England, most likely due to the name. Meat isnโ€™t something normally associated with dessert in many places (although I had an interesting chocolate and beef pastry in Sicily), but traditional mincemeat is indeed, a wonderful addition to holiday desserts. To make it, one must get suet from a butcher, which posed aโ€ฆ

Twentieth Anniversary of the Blog!

I know I should have baked a cake, or rather, someone else should have baked a cake. But no matter. (Okay, so it matters a littleโ€ฆ) Iโ€™m happy to celebrate the blog turning twenty this month! Iโ€™m not sure how the twenty-year mark snuck up so fast, but it did. Who knew when I started posting a bunch of random thoughts, ramblings, and recipes onlineโ€ฆ

Lโ€™Appart, now available in Paperback!

The story was a long time in the making, from deciding to plant roots in Paris, to finding an apartment and tackling a renovation. As often happens, things didnโ€™t quite go as planned. There were obstacles to overcome and I had to expand my French vocabulary. (Who knew there were so many different words for sinks?) There was one too many trips to Ikea, theโ€ฆ

The Perfect Scoop, new revised & updated edition!

When I wrote The Perfect Scoop, I was excited for the opportunity to be able to write a book on ice cream that included the basics of making ice cream at home, but made sure it had a special emphasis on all the mix-ins and sauces and toppings that go inside, outside, and on top of everyoneโ€™s favorite dessert. (Including mine.) I had the timeโ€ฆ

Malva Pudding Cakes

Before a recent visit to Los Angeles, Iโ€™d heard a lot about Sqirl, a quirky restaurant with a funny name. People were imploring me to go. So much so, that if I didnโ€™t, Iโ€™d be racked with guilt for the next five to seven years. (Which I think was the intended effect.) Whatever it was, it worked, and when planning to meet up with aโ€ฆ
