Iโ€™m often asked by people coming to Paris what neighborhood they should stay in. The usual โ€œoff-the-beaten-pathโ€ฆbut not too far from the centerโ€ doesnโ€™t help me figure out what fits those seemingly opposing bills. Everything in Paris is pretty close and most places are a 20 minute mรฉtro ride away. Like most cities, the good places arenโ€™t clustered in the center of the city. Theyโ€™reโ€ฆ

Bouillon Pigalle

I used to wonder why someone didnโ€™t open a bistro in Paris serving classic French food, a bouillion, if you will, a word used to describe a place known for serving lots of food, in generous quantities, in a convivial, and almost communal setting. Bordeaux

I was walking down the Quai de lโ€™Hรดtel de Ville on a recent warm summer night and passed by the outdoor tables of Le Trumilou. I like eating outside on a terrace in Paris but when they implemented the non fumeurย law in France for restaurants cafรฉs, the smokers went outside. It was kind of vexing because it was so nice that everyone could go outsideโ€ฆ

My perfect day in Paris is one that starts at the Marchรฉ dโ€™Aligre. Iโ€™d get there first thing in the morning, around 9 A.M. as the flea market vendors are unloading their trucks, scoping out treasures as they unpack them.
