There’s now a paperback edition of The Sweet Life in Paris with a new look that I just love. The book recounts the story of my move to Paris, and what happened along with the way as I navigated living in a new city, and did my best to adapt to life in France.

You can pick up a copy online at Amazon or Bookshop, or at your local independent bookseller.

    And 7.75 GBP and 7.75 EUR. Too bad the kindle edition is over 14 bucks :-(

    Since the paperback was just released today, I am certain the price of the Kindle edition will drop. You could send a message to Amazon inquiring about that as well. -dl

    This might be the first post of yours I haven’t completely enjoyed.

    I VERY recently bought my hardback cover of this book. Not that I don’t want you to have the royalties you so richly deserve, I just find paperbacks a little easier to handle. I don’t think I can find a way to rationalize the purchase of both, at least not right away.

    I will also be in Paris the week AFTER your tour. It didn’t bother me before, but now you have cancellations. Bah!

    My selfishness aside, I hope the paperback edition brings you many more readers and that two lucky visitors enjoy the tour.

    Lucky me, I got it in hardback way back when. I loved every word, as I do with your blog. You are my “go to” site first thing in the morning. I always love reading about French life, and you articulated such little intricacies that made me feel like I was right there. Congrats on the paperback version — the cover is just lovely.

    I just read your newsletter and, of course, follow your blog, and I don’t know how you do it! Do you just work fast or write all the time, or both?     It looks so delicious – in fact – that I looked at the book and had to rush to my kitchen to make myself an espresso and now the empty cup stands next to my computer… asking ‘et le croissant, tu l’as mis où?….
    Just looked up the prices on Amazon UK and France (not ALL your readers live in the States..) – this is a real must-have. But I usually tend to buy the hard covers; they age much better :) Félicitations à cette création; it looks a real treat…. mmmmmh

    I’m going to be in Paris April 29 – May 7 and would love to come to the book signing. Your newsletter states it’s on April 30th while your Tours link shows it on April 20th. Which is the correct date?

    The hardcover version has been sitting in my Amazon wish list for a while with dozen of other Paris/food related books. Yesterday I bumped into your whole lemon slices recipe, I immediately tried it and they were such a success I instantly decided I must order the Lebovitz-guy’s book right away.     @ Toni Rae – I look at apartments for rent in Paris all the time, and watch anything filmed in Paris; cooking shows, movies, etc. It’s a nice way to live vicariously until it happens for real.

    I love the cover, I’m sure the new info is great but I just love a well worn book that has my baking history spattered in it. Literally.

    Luckily I have children who cook which means I have a great excuse to get the new book, maybe peruse it just a bit…and then present it to my daughter. Best of both worlds!

I did, however, just check Amazon.fr for availability and the price is (UP from 10,00 euros to) 10,18 – wondering meecee where you saw the lower listing or if this is simply the price in France.     sonia + Kiki: I am just the author and have no say over pricing or shipping so can’t answer questions regarding those I’m afraid. However readers outside of the United States can order from the book from Book Depository which ships to many countries around the world, and offers discounts as well as free shipping.

    I have not used them personally so can’t advise as to their services, however. But you can inquire with them. Thanks!

    What a great price, so I’m going to stock up on few to give out as gifts.
    My hardcover version is almost dog-eared from the thumbing through and rereads. I might need to keep one of the paperback versions as a back-up…. hmmm.

    I ordered my copy of the paperback edition of your book from amazon.de.
    It’s true, they charge €10.20, but with free shipping I consider it still a very good value.
    (I had to correct “shipping” – I had typed “whipping”. Cream in my brain, I guess.)

    I am generally buying my books locally, from independent brick and mortar booksellers, but English books that have to be special-ordered simply are prohibitively expensive that way.

    Hmph, it’s £7.75 on Amazon.co.uk, which is a rip-off given the relative values of dollar and pound. I might order it from the USA.

    Any chance of you doing a signing on Sunday 20 March in the afternoon/early evening, when I shall actually be in Paris? Our competition (in Boulogne-Billancourt, which would be one of the first rinks I ever skated at if it hadn’t been rebuilt since!) finishes at lunch-time and our train isn’t until the evening!

    David, I am reading your book right now and absolutely love it! I just finished the part about public restrooms, which I found hysterically funny, especially because I’ve been reading the whole book in the bathroom. That sounds bad, except that I’ve been reading it while giving my toddler a bath each night. It’s the pefect book for starting and stopping at random places, but yet not getting lost in the storyline. Thank you for all of your insights!

One small detail – the pâtisserie autrichienne on rue de Médicine has closed long ago (and I am still in mourning)… Have you encountered, by any chance, another place which makes a not-too-sweet chocolate? Angelina used to make one, but I think it is no longer the case!

    Sorry to tack this question on so late, but I’ve always been curious about something, and you don’t have to answer if you aren’t supposed to.

    When a book is sold at cover price and when it is sold at a discounted price (ie, amazon), does that affect you? I began thinking about this because of how in France small bookshops are protected by the “no books can be sold with more than 5% discount” rule so the fnacs and gibert jeunes dont have a huge advantage over the little bookshops.

    In the US I know to buy the books from the independent shops to help the shops, but I don’t know how the author is affected when prices are slashed by retailers.

    Just curious! Congrats on the paperback release.

    In general, author royalties are fixed except in cases where stores or companies buy a lot of copies (very large organizations can get a better price for buying a lot of books) and the author can get less. But it’s great to support your small bookstore if there’s one in your community. -dl

    I’ve always dreamed of going to Paris, but after reading the parts in your book about the public nose picking and the lack of bathroom access, I was convinced that the true purpose of your book was to keep Americans away! :)
